Our Historic Theatre's Stone Seating Reconstructed in 1976 added to in 1993
This historic photograph is one of several used to plan the reconstruction of the seating for the new 1970s Theatre.
Note the retaining wall at The Barricade and current entrance had not been built at this time.
This photograph by taken by Beverley Blacklock from the 1970's clearly demonstrates the quantity of the original stone seating that had been removed in the decades following the departure of the Griffins.
This photograph taken by Jack Metcalfe in February 2018 corresponds to the location in Beverly Blacklocks picture - see the reference rock in the foreground in this and the above photograph. The 1970s stone seating and The Barricade retaining wall, installed as part of the theatre reconstruction, form the current western seating. In the 1990's reconstruction phases the northern seating was installed taking the site from a Theatre to an Amphitheatre
This 1976 photograph taken by Beverley Blacklock has the new (original) stage under construction and the new rows of (straighter) lines of seating installed. The seating was further augmented in the 1990's - see the 1993 Video clip by Howard Rubie.
